
UNITED WAY OF LINCOLN AND LANCASTER COUNTY FUNDING FOCUS AREAS
Program applications are due to United Way by 5 p.m. on February 8, 2008.
United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County is moving to a two-year funding cycle. The FY 08/09 program application will be the basis of continuation FY 09/10 funding. Continuation funding for FY 2009/2010 is contingent upon the success of the United Way Community Campaign and the FY 08/09 funded program’s success in meeting proposed client outcomes.
- Programs applying for funding must be in operation for a minimum of 24 months and have program and financial data for that time.
- Program review is zero-based funding.
- Minimum funding level is $5,000.

Children are ready to enter school

- Children attend programs that provide early learning and skill development: programs are either accredited or use the quality rating system
- Children are assessed and assisted in reaching developmental milestones
Children and youth succeed
(focus area Education)
- Children and youth achieve literacy and numeracy
- Families will have access to parenting support and education
- Youth will graduate from high school with skills and motivation to pursue continuing education/employment opportunities
(focus area Mentoring)
- Children and youth will receive mental/emotional support
- Children and youth have meaningful adult relationships that provide high expectations of behavior and achievement
Assisting those in crisis
Increased food security

- Promote and support a coordinated system of food distribution
- Promote and support food programs for low-income children
Increase shelter security
(focus area Shelter)
- Provide emergency and transitional shelter beds for individuals and families
- Provide emergency assistance for individuals
Increase victim safety
(focus area Victim Safety)
- Provide emergency and transitional shelter beds for individuals and families affected by domestic violence
- Provide crisis services for victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse
Ensure preparedness for community disasters

- Provide support to people affected by fires and natural disasters
- Connect and mobilize resources to build community response
