Spirit of United Way Award
On Thursday, March 18, 2009, United Way recognized local volunteers, donors and business and community leaders and praised a caring community that in 2008, despite a tough economic climate, helped raise $5,591,910.
Campaign Chair Brad Hedrick said, “Thanks to the hard work of the fifteen-member 2008 campaign cabinet, United Way staff, and volunteers , we have raised a significant amount of money to help the residents of Lincoln and Lancaster County.” The top ten community supporters included the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Ameritas Life Insurance Corp., State of Nebraska, Pfizer, Federal Government (CFC), Union Bank & Trust Company, Allied Insurance, Nelnet, Inc., and FACTS/Nelnet Business Solutions, Novartis Consumer Health, Inc., and Assurity Life Insurance Company.
Honored for outstanding commitment to the mission of United Way through its leadership commitment, resources, and time spent to solve community issues, NEBCO, Inc., received the 2008 President’s Award.
T.J. McDowell, Jr., Clyde Malone Community Center and Amy Boren, El Centro de las Americas received the 2008 Spirit of United Way Award. This award recognizes an individual that demonstrates strong community involvement and support through United Way. They not only provide greatly needed human services to the community, but they are also an active partner working to solve critical problems facing the community.
