Union Bank & Trust Company Receives President’s Award
Lincoln Community Learning Centers-Spirit of United Way Award

On Monday, April 18, 2011, United Way/Community Health Charities Campaign Chair, Charlie Meyer recognized local volunteers, donors, business, and community leaders praising a caring community that in 2010 helped raise $5, 932,058. “This has been a team effort” Meyer said, “working united toward a common cause made this the most successful United Way campaign ever in Lincoln and Lancaster County.”
Executive Director, Brian Wachman said, “In 2010, with the undesignated dollars given to the United Way Fund, United Way supported 62 programs (42 agencies) and eight initiatives that provide support in our community for children and those in crisis.” The top ten community supporters included the State of Nebraska, Ameritas Life Insurance Corp., the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Pfizer Inc, the Federal Government (Combined Federal Campaign), Union Bank & Trust Company, Allied Insurance, Nelnet, the City of Lincoln and Assurity Life Insurance Company..
Honored for outstanding dedication to the mission of United Way through its leadership commitment, resources, and time spent to solve community issues, Union Bank & Trust Company, received the 2010 President’s Award. Receiving this award for the first time, Union Bank & Trust Company associates dedicated their time to United Way by being involved in the United Way Board of Directors, United Way/Community Health Charities Campaign Cabinet, Women in Philanthropy Steering Committee, the United Way Foundation Board, and several other committees.
2010 United Way Board President, Bill Schmeeckle said, “It takes thousands of committed individuals each year to fulfill the mission of United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County. These individuals give their time, their expertise, and their wealth to make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable families, children, and adults. United Way could not manage without their support and giving spirit.” The 2010 Spirit of United Way Award was awarded to Lincoln Community Learning Centers. This award recognizes an individual or individuals that demonstrate strong community involvement and support through United Way. They not only provide human services to the community, but they are also an active partner working to solve critical problems facing the community.
