United Way Announces Virtual Book Drive May 23-June 1

May 24, 2011  //  United Way

Join us in putting a book in the hands of a child.

Hundreds of children in our community don’t have the books they need to be successful in school and beyond. United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County is changing that by raising money to buy books for the children we serve.

The United Way Women in Philanthropy and Women’s Leadership Council have joined together with First Book to create a Virtual Book Drive. No heavy lifting, no planning a trip to the store to pick out just the right book for a child. This Virtual Book Drive allows you to donate as little as $10 and allows us to purchase four books. Yes, that’s correct four books for $10. We have teamed up with United Way Worldwide and First Book to purchase in bulk.

Our goal is to raise more than $2,400 so we can provide books to children in the city. The books will be distributed on United Way Day of Action Tuesday, June 21. Volunteers are teaming up with United Way to read and distribute books to over 300 children.
