Countdown to Kindergarten Calendar

August 24, 2009  //  United Way

The United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County is pleased to present the 2009-2010 “Countdown to Kindergarten Calendar.” The “Countdown to Kindergarten Calendar” was developed by a team of early care/early education professionals from Lincoln and Omaha. This calendar provides parents and caregivers with daily activity ideas to use with four year old children, suggested reading lists, and information for parents onlocal resources, schools, and libraries.

The purpose of the calendar is to promote the skills that will help a child succeed in kindergarten. The calendar content is targeted towards four year olds preparing to enter kindergarten in the fall of 2010. The calendar is full of activities that parents and caregivers can do with children that encourage growth in the seven domains of development and learning from the Nebraska Early Learning Guidelines for Ages 3-5:

  1. Social and Emotional Development
  2. Approaches to Learning
  3. Health and Physical Development
  4. Language and Literacy
  5. Mathematics
  6. Science
  7. Creative Arts

The calendar also includes information about the importance of nature, play, music and movement.

If you are a licensed child care provider, we invite you to join us in our community-wide distribution effort by providing calendars free of charge to the families of four year old children who attend your center or home daycare.
