United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County is pleased to present the 2009-2010 “Countdown to Kindergarten Calendar.” The calendar, prepared for parents and caregivers of four-year-olds, was developed by a team of early care/early education professionals. The calendar provides parents and caregivers with daily activity ideas to use with four-year-old children, suggested reading lists, and information for parents on local resources, schools, and libraries. The activities will encourage growth in the seven domains of development and learning from the Nebraska Early Learning Guidelines for ages three to five:
- Social and emotional development
- Approaches to learning
- Health and physical development
- Language and literacy
- Creative Arts
The Countdown to Kindergarten Project is focused on two main outcomes:
1) Educating the community on the importance of social/emotional readiness
2) Increasing the awareness of available services and resources that promote development of skills that will help a child succeed in kindergarten.
United Way will host a calendar distribution event Sunday, October 25th at Cedars Northbridge Community 1533 North 27th Street from 1:00-4:00 PM. Free calendars will be available to parents of four-year old children that are preparing to enter kindergarten the fall of 2010, and are also available to caregivers and early care/early education providers.
