Captain Joy Citta Receives Spirit of United Way Award
On Thursday, February 21, 2008, United Way recognized local volunteers, donors and business and community leaders and praised a caring community that helped it raise $5,701,417 during its 2007 campaign.
The 2007 community campaign had a 7 percent increase over the 2006 campaign, 2007 Campaign Chair, Bill Schmeeckle of Assurity Life Insurance Company, announced to a sold out crowd at the Embassy Suites. “The 2007 campaign was a tremendous experience. A record number of local organizations and a strong campaign cabinet made this year outstanding.” The top ten corporate and employee investors included Pfizer, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Ameritas Life Insurance Corp., State of Nebraska, Allied Insurance, Union Bank & Trust Company, Federal Government (CFC), Nelnet, Inc., and FACTS/Nelnet Business Solutions, Novartis Consumer Health, Inc., and the City of Lincoln.
Honored for outstanding commitment to the mission of United Way through its leadership commitment, resources, and time spent to solve community issues, AMERITAS LIFE INSURANCE CORP., received the 2007 President’s Award.
Captain Joy Citta, Lincoln Police Department received the 2007 Spirit of United Way Award. This award recognizes an in individual that demonstrates strong community involvement and support through United Way. They not only provide greatly needed human services to the community, but they are also an active partner working to solve critical problems facing the community.
John Maher, Publisher, Lincoln Journal Star and Scott Morton, General Manager of Lamar Outdoor Advertising accepted the 2007 Media Partnership Awards on behalf of their organizations.
