This 2026 Tax Law Could Benefit You

October 19, 2026

Now is the time to take advantage.

One of the provisions of the Reconciliation Bill signed into law in 2025 is an incentive for everyday Americans to make charitable donations. Anyone taking the standard deduction when filing their 2026 taxes may also claim a Charitable Deduction for cash (not in-kind) contributions.

The new deduction is capped at:

  • $1,000 for those filing single
  • $2,000 for married individuals filing jointly

Anyone who made a pledge for the 2025 United Way/CHAD Campaign, whose donations started in January 2026 (payroll, ACH), might consider utilizing this new tax benefit to their advantage.

Additionally, anyone who wants to reach the maximum $1,000 threshold might consider an extra donation before December 31, 2026.

Donors who have yet to make a charitable gift in 2026 are encouraged to consider whether this tax benefit is right for them.
